Ocean Beach I
Artist’s Statement: Inspired by a visit to the artist’s son’s home in San Francisco near the Pacific. Created using oil and a painting knife, the limited palette for this piece includes Payne’s Gray, Phthalo Blue, Titanium White, and Raw Umber.
Skillman draws inspiration from Dion Salvador Lloyd, Joan Eardley, Carlos San Milan, Winslow Homer, Georgia O’Keeffe, and Nicolas de Staël, and strives to capture the mood of a place. Oceans, rivers, streams, and lakes are among her favorite subjects.
