Let There Exist For Us…

Eva-Maria Sher

(Sappho fragments stitched into one poem)

Let there exist for us

not one further sorrow

Come to me once again

clear-sounding myth weaver

On a soft pillow lay down your limbs

blessed by the muses—

You have come into bloom

with the spring flowers—

Let me weave garlands

around your soft throat

Reawaken the sweet-flowing lute

the pure grace of your arms

Like roses—

The wisdom teaching

of your honeyed voice
