No Sunshine, No Home

It’s your nature, you must go, is what I tell my Canada Goose when summer heat sends him north or winter winds pull him south. I can only kiss his bill before he honks goodbye and flies, because I don’t have the wings to travel the V alongside him. Stuck here in-between, I throw back Grey Goose vodka shots while waiting for him to bring back the warmth, until friends put the bottle away saying he’ll always return, because it’s also in his nature to mate for life. And all I can say is, I know, I know, I know.

Sundog at My Window on a Midwestern Winter’s Afternoon

By Jay Summer

Glistening white sunlight bounds through my window, bouncing across the wooden floor like a pristine and puffed up Bichon Frise parading across the room with such pomp, you’re tempted to believe they understand the concept of “best in show.”
