Artist’s Statement: The urge to project heroic power is almost irresistible to all men at some point in their lives. Trying to appear heroic is like trying to be cool, making it a perfect setup for ridiculousness and tragicomedy. These colored pencil and graphite drawings map out the zone between how we hope to be and how we really are.
About the Author
Jaime Cortez is a writer, multidisciplinary visual artist, and occasional performer. His first and great love is drawing, but he works in diverse media. He is restless. His work rarely looks the same from one exhibition to the next. He is consistent. No matter what it looks like, his work is usually informed by five recurring themes.
